Mr. Wilber C. Vaught, 69, of Calabash died Tuesday September 30, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Vaught was born in Calabash, NC on September 20, 1945 and was the son of the late Curtis and Pinks Hill Vaught. He was a commercial fisherman. Mr. Vaught was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Ocean Highway, Ocean Isle Beach.

He is survived by his wife, Jacklyn C. Vaught; four children, Jack Christopher Vaught of Calabash, Wilber C. Vaught Jr. and wife Elaine of Calabash, Sharon Denise Ash and husband Ben of Bolivia, Timothy Vaught of Raleigh; a brother, Curtis J. “C.J.” Vaught and wife Rose of Calabash; three sisters, Pearlie Cooper and husband Robert of Baltimore, MD., Hally Ellis of Baltimore, MD., Mary Alice Vereen of Calabash; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held Saturday October 4, 2014 at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5909 Ocean Highway, Ocean Isle Beach. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Calabash.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-8 pm at White Funeral Service, 3660 Express Dr., Shallotte.

Mr. Robert F. Grudee 89 of Carolina Shores died Monday September 29, 2014 at Brunswick Novant Medical Center.

Mr. Grudee was born in Pelham Manor, NY on April 30, 1925 and was the son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Grudee. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Grudee was a retired Aerospace Engineer.

He is survived by three sons, Robert Siemion Grudee of Wilson, NC, Donald Robert Grudee of Hopewell Junction, NY, Tim Grudee of Morrisville, NC.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

John Calhoun “Johnny” Mayers, Jr. age 64 of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away on Tuesday September 23, 2014.

He was born on February 18, 1950 in Mullins, SC the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Calhoun Mayers, Sr.

Johnny was affiliated with Hills Food Store and Jerome’s Steak House in Shallotte for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Gray Hawes Mayers of the home; one son, Chad Mayers of Mullins, SC and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Friday September 26, 2014 at White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel 3660 Express Drive Shallotte

Interment will follow in Gurganus Cemetery.

Mr. William Kenneth “Bill” Reagan age 70 of Calabash died September 20, 2014.

Bill was born in Greeneville, TN. on October 8, 1943 and was the son of the late Richard and Ruby Inscore Reagan. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Silas Nelson Oller and Carson Savage. He retired from Dean Foods of Belvidere, Ill. after 34 years of service. He was an NASCAR and Jeff Gordon Fan. He was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church of Hickman’s Crossroads.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Reagan; five children, Ronald Keith Reagan, Rhonda V. Walton, Laura Oller, Carrie Heim West, Kendra Reagan; grandchildren, Stephen, Seth, Mallary, Ryan, Tyler, Rylee, Khyla, Mackenzie; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Mr. Donald Martin Smigiel Sr., 83, of Supply died Thursday September 18, 2014 at Autumn Care Nursing Center, Shallotte.

Mr. Smigiel was born in Detroit Michigan on November 29, 1930 and was the son of the late Martin S. and Helen Banach Smigiel. He was a Us. Marine Corp Veteran and a member of Shallotte Lodge #727 A.F. & A.M. He owned and operated a Auto Body Repair Service for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie “SIS” Arcelia Smigiel.

He is Survived by three sons, Donald Smigiel and wife Jacque, Alan Smigiel and wife Julie, Kenny Smigiel and wife Carol all of Supply; a daughter, Donna Simpson and husband Jeff of Shallotte; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday September 21, 2014 at 3pm at Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Negron and Pastor Tootie Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bernice Claudie “Catfish” Long age 79 of the Thomasboro Community died Tuesday September 16, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Long was born in Brunswick County on June 28, 1935 and was the son of the late Rodney Beamon Long and Eva Norris Long. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. Mr. Long attended Thomasboro Freewill Baptist Church and was their groundskeeper. He was a avid spot fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Bland Long; two children, Jeremy Long and wife January of Shallotte, Cathy Cortes of Ash; three grandchildren, Kristine Fowler, Maria Cortes, Jessica Teal all of Ash; two great grandchildren, Tierra Teal and Connor Ruane; a brother, Richard Dale Long of Ash.

Mr. Robert Peter “R.P.” Robinson Jr., 87, of Supply died Saturday September 13, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Robinson was born in Brunswick County on June 6, 1927 and was the son of the late Robert Peter Robinson Sr. and Lillie Reaves Robinson. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a Chief Boatsman Mate with U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Mr. Robinson was a member of Pythagoras Lodge #249 A.F. & A.M. of Southport, Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite and the Sudan Temple. He was a devoted member and past president of the Brunswick County Shrine Club and past captain of the Thunderbolts. He was a proud member by invitation of the Royal Order of Justers.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Robinson; four sons, Randy Robinson, Rickie Robinson, Robert Robinson, Rocky Robinson, all of Supply; a daughter, Rhonda Hunnicutt of Wilmington; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 16, 2014 at 3pm at Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. Pallbearers will be, Toby Fulford, John Perry Robinson, Phil Robinson, T. Virgil Roberts, Ronnie Robinson, Andy Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brunswick County Shrine Club.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Sharon United Methodist Church.

Mr. William D. “Billy” Carter age 78 of Shallotte went to be with the Lord Friday September 12, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Carter was born in Horry County, SC on September 22, 1935 and was the son of the late Lenzy Howard Carter and Virginia Viola Lewis Carter. He was a member of Word Of Life Christian Fellowship of Ocean Isle Beach. He was a retired commercial fisherman. He was a very talented net maker and net repairman. He was an excellent shrimp header and won many contest. He had a God given gift of an excellent memory and loved sharing stories of his life with others and being with other people.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Stanley Carter; three sons, William D. “Bill” Carter Jr. and wife Rhonda of Supply, Kim Ellios Carter and wife Jennifer of Shallotte, Tim Elliott Carter and wife Kathy of Ocean Isle Beach; four daughters, Sandra DeMay and husband Daniel Joseph III of Hartsville, TN, Wendy Carter Sheffield and husband John of Ocean Isle Beach, Linda Dale Barnhill of Shallotte, Sheila Carter Whaley and husband Zendall of Shallotte; a brother, Russell Carter of Savannah, Ga.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mr. Roy Lennon Inman age 73 of Leland died Thursday September 11, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Inman was born in Brunswick County on September 21, 1940 and was the son of the late Orbie J. and Ilene Millican Inman. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol J. Buck and Wanda F. Inman. He was a retired Truck Driver.

He is survived by his devoted companion, Barbara Robbins; a son, Brandon J. Inman; a brother, Orbie Eugene Inman and wife Doris of Shallotte; two sisters, Elizabeth Sellers and husband Keith of Bolivia, Sondra Ganus of Shallotte; a grandson, B.J. Barbara Ann Meares ,79, of Calabash died Tuesday September 9, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mrs. Meares was born in Dillon County, SC on July 4, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Ireland J. and Janie Strickland Dew. She was wife of the late Hobson Meares. She was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church where she played piano at the church for 50 years and served in several other capacities in the church. She was a charter member of the Calabash Rescue Squad. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking, playing the piano and organ.

She is survived by two children, Clayton Meares and wife Regina and their children, Jacob Meares and wife Samantha, Cody Meares, Taylor Meares; Donna McLamb and her children, Candice McLamb, Christina Toler and husband Frank; great grandchildren, A.J. Meares, Aidean Meares, Sophia Postel; a sister, Pearl Frink.

Funeral services will be held Friday September 12, 2104 at 11am at White Funeral Service Chapel, Shallotte with Reverend Foyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Meares Cemetery, Calabash.
