Mr. Donald Martin Smigiel Sr., 83, of Supply died Thursday September 18, 2014 at Autumn Care Nursing Center, Shallotte.

Mr. Smigiel was born in Detroit Michigan on November 29, 1930 and was the son of the late Martin S. and Helen Banach Smigiel. He was a Us. Marine Corp Veteran and a member of Shallotte Lodge #727 A.F. & A.M. He owned and operated a Auto Body Repair Service for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie “SIS” Arcelia Smigiel.

He is Survived by three sons, Donald Smigiel and wife Jacque, Alan Smigiel and wife Julie, Kenny Smigiel and wife Carol all of Supply; a daughter, Donna Simpson and husband Jeff of Shallotte; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday September 21, 2014 at 3pm at Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Negron and Pastor Tootie Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8 and Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church and other times from the residence.

Mr. Bernice Claudie “Catfish” Long age 79 of the Thomasboro Community died Tuesday September 16, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Long was born in Brunswick County on June 28, 1935 and was the son of the late Rodney Beamon Long and Eva Norris Long. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. Mr. Long attended Thomasboro Freewill Baptist Church and was their groundskeeper. He was a avid spot fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Bland Long; two children, Jeremy Long and wife January of Shallotte, Cathy Cortes of Ash; three grandchildren, Kristine Fowler, Maria Cortes, Jessica Teal all of Ash; two great grandchildren, Tierra Teal and Connor Ruane; a brother, Richard Dale Long of Ash.

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 20, 2014 at 2pm at Thomasboro Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Dallas Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the Bennett Town Cemetery, Ash.

Mr. Robert Peter “R.P.” Robinson Jr

Mr. Robert Peter “R.P.” Robinson Jr., 87, of Supply died Saturday September 13, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Robinson was born in Brunswick County on June 6, 1927 and was the son of the late Robert Peter Robinson Sr. and Lillie Reaves Robinson. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a Chief Boatsman Mate with U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Mr. Robinson was a member of Pythagoras Lodge #249 A.F. & A.M. of Southport, Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite and the Sudan Temple. He was a devoted member and past president of the Brunswick County Shrine Club and past captain of the Thunderbolts. He was a proud member by invitation of the Royal Order of Justers.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Robinson; four sons, Randy Robinson, Rickie Robinson, Robert Robinson, Rocky Robinson, all of Supply; a daughter, Rhonda Hunnicutt of Wilmington; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 16, 2014 at 3pm at Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. Pallbearers will be, Toby Fulford, John Perry Robinson, Phil Robinson, T. Virgil Roberts, Ronnie Robinson, Andy Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brunswick County Shrine Club.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Sharon United Methodist Church.

Mr. William D. “Billy” Carter age 78 of Shallotte went to be with the Lord Friday September 12, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Carter was born in Horry County, SC on September 22, 1935 and was the son of the late Lenzy Howard Carter and Virginia Viola Lewis Carter. He was a member of Word Of Life Christian Fellowship of Ocean Isle Beach. He was a retired commercial fisherman. He was a very talented net maker and net repairman. He was an excellent shrimp header and won many contest. He had a God given gift of an excellent memory and loved sharing stories of his life with others and being with other people.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Stanley Carter; three sons, William D. “Bill” Carter Jr. and wife Rhonda of Supply, Kim Ellios Carter and wife Jennifer of Shallotte, Tim Elliott Carter and wife Kathy of Ocean Isle Beach; four daughters, Sandra DeMay and husband Daniel Joseph III of Hartsville, TN, Wendy Carter Sheffield and husband John of Ocean Isle Beach, Linda Dale Barnhill of Shallotte, Sheila Carter Whaley and husband Zendall of Shallotte; a brother, Russell Carter of Savannah, Ga.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday September 14, 2014 at 4pm at Word Of Life Christian Fellowship, 6657 Beach Dr., Ocean Isle Beach, NC with Reverend Bill McNeill and Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Brooks Cemetery.

Mr. Roy Lennon Inman age 73 of Leland died Thursday September 11, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Inman was born in Brunswick County on September 21, 1940 and was the son of the late Orbie J. and Ilene Millican Inman. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol J. Buck and Wanda F. Inman. He was a retired Truck Driver.

He is survived by his devoted companion, Barbara Robbins; a son, Brandon J. Inman; a brother, Orbie Eugene Inman and wife Doris of Shallotte; two sisters, Elizabeth Sellers and husband Keith of Bolivia, Sondra Ganus of Shallotte; a grandson, B.J. Barbara Ann Meares ,79, of Calabash died Tuesday September 9, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mrs. Meares was born in Dillon County, SC on July 4, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Ireland J. and Janie Strickland Dew. She was wife of the late Hobson Meares. She was a longtime member of Beulah Baptist Church where she played piano at the church for 50 years and served in several other capacities in the church. She was a charter member of the Calabash Rescue Squad. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking, playing the piano and organ.

She is survived by two children, Clayton Meares and wife Regina and their children, Jacob Meares and wife Samantha, Cody Meares, Taylor Meares; Donna McLamb and her children, Candice McLamb, Christina Toler and husband Frank; great grandchildren, A.J. Meares, Aidean Meares, Sophia Postel; a sister, Pearl Frink.

Funeral services will be held Friday September 12, 2104 at 11am at White Funeral Service Chapel, Shallotte with Reverend Foyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Meares Cemetery, Calabash.

Mary Louise Easter Inman, 81 of Bolivia, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014 in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia.

Mrs. Inman was born May 6, 1933 in Carroll County, Virginia the daughter of the late Oscar and Lula Callaway Easter. She loved to tend a flower garden here on earth and now she is tending to one for her Lord and Savior in Heaven. Mrs. Inman was preceded in death by her husband Tracy C. White.

Surviving is her five daughters; Elizabeth Ann Sihra and husband Josh of Chester, SC, Linda Butner of Shallotte, Marilyn Kaye Formyduval of Ash, Zesta Wooten and husband Clarence, and Gloria McKeithan and husband Wayne all of Bolivia; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Mr. David J. Grissett age 63 of Ocean Isle Beach died Wednesday August 27, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Grissett was born in Brunswick County on July 29, 1951 and was the son of the late Gilbert and Sally Ward Grissett. He owned and operated Grissett’s Plumbing Service for 40 years. He was a Bee-Keeper and loved shrimping.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Grissett; a daughter, Susan Grissett of the home; a brother, Gary Grissett and wife Roberta of Supply; two sisters, Linda Norton and husband Bobby of Supply, Joan Jenrette and husband Cecil of Pireway; a special niece, Tracy Ward.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of White Funeral Service, Shallotte with Reverend Landis Lancaster, Reverend Bobby Norton and Reverend Harold Gore officiating.

Samuel B. “Sam” Southern age 16 of Leland died Tuesday August 26, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Sam was born in New Hanover County on December 13, 1997 and was the son of Ronald and Diane Davis Southern. He was a Junior at North Brunswick High School. He has been on the “A-B” Honor Roll since kindergarten and enjoyed tutoring other students. He was a multi-sport athlete and enjoyed video games. He loved music.

He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Diane Southern ; a sister, Lyndsay Clark of Westminister, SC; maternal grandmother, Carolyn R. Davis of Wilmington; Aunts and Uncles, Darryl Davis of Wilmington, Donna Davis Pauly and husband Pete of Wilmington, Amy Smith and husband Burton of Leland, Fred Osborne of South Florida and many cousins and close friends.
