Mrs. Dorothy Sellers Hewett

Mrs. Dorothy Sellers Hewett age 87 of Supply died Monday June 16, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mrs. Hewett was born in Brunswick County September 7, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Brady R. and Ernestine Dosher Sellers. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy H. McHenry. She was a longtime member of Supply Baptist Church. Dorothy was a seamstress and enjoyed working in her yard.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, C.A. Hewett Jr.; a son, Mark Hewett of Apex, NC; a sister, Mary Frances Russ of Southport.

funeral services will be held Monday June 23, 2014 at 5pm at Supply Baptist Church with Reverend Bill McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the Silent Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jody Clemmons, Leamon Clemmons, Gene Sellers, Ronald Hewett, Alan Bellamy, Perry Sellers. Honorary Pallbearer will be Benny Sellers, Greg Bellamy

Mr. Charles E. “Billy” Smith age 80 of Ash died Friday June 13, 2014 at SECU Hospice House Brunswick Facility.

Mr. Smith was born in Brunswick County August 23, 1933 and was the son of the late Lue and Kate Andrews Smith. He retired from BEMC and was an ordained Minister. Billy enjoyed spending time on the Intracoastal Waterway fishing and shrimping. He was an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Clemmons Smith; a son, Keith Smith of Ash; a daughter, Kim Smith of Supply; a sister, Sheila Howard of Grissettown; 3 grandchildren and two great Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday June 16th , 2014 at 5pm at the White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel, Shallotte with Reverend Tommy Inman officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Ronald Terry Packer

Mr. Ronald Terry Packer 64 of Ocean Isle Beach died June 11, 2014 at his home.

Ron was born October 22, 1949 in New Hanover County and was the son of Leola Askew of Wilmington and the late Charles H. Packer. He retired from Dupont. He was a member of Full Life Fellowship Church in Ash. He enjoyed woodworking and riding his motorcycle and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie Anderson Packer; three sons, Charles “Joe” Packer and wife Anna, Phillip Packer and wife Joanne, Roy Simmons and wife Marie; three daughters, Amy Sause and husband Ian, Tracy Varnum and husband John, Tina Gainey; a brother, Charles Mike Packer; two sisters, Ramona Calarco and husband Steve, Donna Askew; 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 14, 2014 at 2pm at White Funeral Service Chapel, 3660 Express Dr., Shallotte with Reverend Donnie Jones and Reverend Jason Kinlaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery.Pallbearers will be, David Bullard, Audie Lowrimore, Tommy Chase, Tommy McMillan, Ricky Strupe, Morris Bloodworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Avery and Dennis Marshall.

Tentis D. Dixon age 82 of Varnamtown died June 10, 2014.

Mr. Dixon was born in Varnamtown on December 29, 1931 and was the son of the late Albert “Shucky” Dixon and Ava Ludlum Dixon. He was a lifetime commercial fisherman. He was predeceased by a son, Tan Dixon, a brother and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Anderson Dixon; three sons, Randy Dixon, Tentis Dixon, Will Moore all of Supply; four daughters, Helen Faye Dixon, Kaye Cate, Christy Melton, Tina Noble all of Supply; a brother, Gerald Dixon of Supply; four sisters, Marlene Varnam of Supply, Shirley Little of Whiteville, Myrtie Moore of Currie, Elsa Mae Deal of Burgaw and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 13, 2014 at 2pm at Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Bobby Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times from the home of Marlene Varnam, 175 Varnamtown Rd.

Mr. Richard Irvin Piver age 76 of Ash died Wednesday June 4, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Piver was born in Bladen County on July 7, 1937 and was the son of the late George and Robie Hewett Piver. Mr. Piver was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He retired from Norfolk Dredging Co. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ash.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie G. Piver; two sons, Barry Piver and wife Sherry of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Ray Piver and wife Lisa of Ash; nine grandchildren, Crystal, William, Ashley, Justin, Kacey, Brooke, Zoey, Benjamin, Ruby.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 7, 2014 at 11am at Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend William Chappell officiating. Burial will follow in the Piver Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Whitney King, Jeremy King, Neil King, Jason Gore, Matthew Chappell, Delane Chappell. Honorary pallbearers will be, William Piver and Justin Piver.

Betty Cantrell Barrett, 77, of Sunset Beach died Monday May 19, 2014.

Mrs. Barrett was born in Polk County, Georgia on February 14, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Henry Albert and Edna Agan Cantrell. She was also preceded in death by a son, Trey Barrett. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shallotte.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ed Barrett; a daughter, Susan Barrett Brown and husband Jerry of Ocean Isle Beach; two grandchildren, Lindsey Brown Whelan and husband Jeremy and Trey Brown; two great grandchildren, Jered Whelan and Jacob Whelan; a sister, Jean Clark and husband Marion of McDonough, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 21, 2014 at 5pm at First Baptist Church, Shallotte with Pastor Bob Weathers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Wanda Faye Inman age 66 of Shallotte died Tuesday May 13, 2014 at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mrs. Inman was born in Columbus County on October 21, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Orbie and Ilene Inman. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Elayna Phelps and a sister, Carol Inman Buck. She was a lifelong member of Jennie Branch Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, James Henry Inman; a son, James O. Inman of Shallotte; two daughters, Gwen I. Long and husband C.M. of Shallotte, Ashely I. Mitchell and husband Mark of Shallotte; four grandchildren, Maggie Phelps, Andrew Mitchell, Patrick Phelps, Holly Long; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Ben Phelps; a God Daughter, ReAnn Eaton and her son Will Pickard of Ash; two brothers, Eugene Inman and wife Doris of Shallotte, Roy Inman and wife Barbara of Leland; two sisters, Sondra Ganus of Shallotte, Lib Sellers and husband Keith of Bolivia; two very special friends, Elaine Pigott and Julia Lee.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 15, 2014 at 1pm at Jennies Branch Baptist Church with Reverend Robbie Stephens and Reverend Larry Milliken officiating. Burial will follow in the Bill Inman Cemetery, Ash.

Shelton Lee Cartland age 48 of Supply died Monday May 12, 2014.

Mr. Cartland was born in Greensboro , NC on October 29, 1965. He was employed with the Town Of Sunset Beach. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Britt Cartland.

He is survived by his father, Larry Cartland and wife Patsy of Supply; a son, Jeremy Cartland of Randleman, NC; a daughter, Heather Cartland of Nakina; two sisters, Sheri Rogers of Daytona Beach, Fl., Michelle Cartland of Smithfield, NC.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 15, 2014 at 5pm at the White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel, Shallotte. Interment will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park, Southport.

Etta Mae McKeithan Little

Etta Mae McKeithan Little was born February 13, 1920, in Brunswick County. She entered into eternal rest May 7, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Jasper Sylvester Mckeithan and Charity Caison.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, James Franklin Little; a son, James Maurice Little, a grandson in-law, John Luke; brother, James McKeithan and sisters, Melissa McKeithan, Bessie Smith, Ada Edwards, Molene Mckeithan and Lois Mckeithan and nephew, Boyd Lee Smith.

She is survived by two daughters; Thelma Little of Ash, NC, Christine Vereen and husband Pearly of Ash, NC; daughter in-law, Diane Ganus Little of Ash, NC; grandchildren, Cheryl Luke of Wilmington, Brian Little and wife Janet of Ash and Whitney Little of Ash, NC. She leaves four great- grandchildren, Alex Luke, Madison Little, James Brian “Buddy” Little, and Julia Little; one niece, Linda Hewett (Jan); three nephews, Nathan Edwards (Doris), Milton Smith(Rosie) and Ronnie McKeithan (Elizabeth) and one special “sister”, Janet Hughes as well as many cousins and friends.

She loved her family and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves many happy memories of her love for her family, church and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 9, 2014 at 1pm at New Life Baptist Church with Reverend Clayton Rivenbark and Reverend Bob Rea officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Patsy Tyndall Jones, age 75, of Shallotte, NC died Monday at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick Bolivia, NC.

She was born in Columbus County, NC on March 2, 1939 the daughter of the late, Joseph and Emma Tyndall  and was preceded in death by her husband,  Nelson Jones also a son, Ricky Jones

Surviving are a son, Dean Jones of Shallotte, NC; two sisters, Shirley Jacobs of Nakina, NC and Audrey Robertson of Shallotte, NC; four grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Brunswick Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, May 7, 2914 at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 3660 Express Drive Shallotte.
