Silas Nelson Oller

Silas Nelson Oller age 17 of Sunset Beach died Sunday April 6, 2014.

Silas was a sophomore at West Brunswick High School and a member of the school band.

Silas was born in Rockford, Illinois on February 15, 1997 and was the son of Nelson Oller of Columbia, SC and Laura Heim Oller of Sunset Beach. Other survivors include four brothers, Seth Parnell, Stephen Parnell of Belvidere, Illinois, Terrance Oller, Jesse Oller of Lincoln, Illinois; grandparents, Bill and Marilyn Reagan of Calabash, Deloris Oller of Lincoln, Illinois, Thomas and Soila Heim of Grand Prairie , Illinois.

A memorial service will be held Friday April 11, 2014 at 6pm at Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church, Hickmans Crossroads, with Reverend Phil Norris officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm at the church prior to the memorial service.

Mrs. Dovie L. Evans age 86 of Ash died Sunday April 6, 2014 at New Hanover regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Evans was born in Brunswick county on May 25, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Dexter and Ioda Andrews White. She was preceded in death by a son, Junior Dowell.

She is survived by four children, Mickey Dowell, Jamie Evans, Yolanda Smith, Devone Stocks all of Ash, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday April 10, 2014 at 10am at the Milligan Cemetery, Ash.

There is no visitation.

Mrs. Phyllis Long Todd

Mrs. Todd was born in Brunswick County on September 23, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Lay D. and Lena Norris Long. She was wife of the late Lynn Todd. She was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hewett and husband Jeff of Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 2pm at Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Phil Norris officiating. Burial will follow in the Manley Bennett Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Frankie Norris, Buddy Owens, Steve Norris, Kim Long, Cody Long, Ronnie Bessent.

The family will receive friends from 1-2pm prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Todd will lie in state on Tuesday April 8, 2014 from 10am until 5pm at White Funeral Service, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte.

Jerry Wayne Benton age 50 of Supply died April 1, 2014

Jerry was born in Salisbury, Maryland on February 15, 1964 and was the son of the late Ellis and Mildred Benton.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Benton; three children, Larry Wayne Benton, Matthew D. Benton, Ann Benton; three brothers, Michael Benton, Robert Benton, Tony Benton and one grandchild.

Floyd Edward Little

Floyd Edward Little age 67 of Bladenboro, NC passed away on Sunday March 30. 2014 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center Whiteville, NC.

He was born on March 14, 1947 the son of Robertin Crowley Little of Cole City, FL and the late Denward Little and was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Habba.

Floyd was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam Conflict and was wounded and received the Purple Heart.   He will be greatly missed and loved by all that knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Linda B. Little of the home; four sons, Jack Edwards and wife, April of Supply, Gary Little and wife, Linda of Tennessee, Brain Little of Illinois, Cory Little; two daughters, Jacqueline Yaemmonkol and husband, Don of Shallotte, NC and Bonnie Hickman and husband, Johnnie of Bladenboro, NC; five brothers, Harry Little of Old Dock, NC, Glenn Little and Oscar Little both of Lemont, IL, Denward Little, Jr, and  Robert Little also of . of Palsights, IL; three sisters, Sandra Bennett of Cole City, IL Debra Geitze of Morris, IL and Kathy Thomas of Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas, Ashley, Brian, Kayleiah, Brandon, Amber, Dylan, Katie Lynn, Abbie, Allison, Colton, and John; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday April 3, 2014 at the Calvary Church 405 main Street Bladenboro by the Revered Ronnie Brisson and Reverend Levie Bryan officiating.  Interment will be 12:00 Noon Friday April 4, 2014 at the Sandhills State Veteran’s Cemetery 400 Murchison Road Springlake, NC.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church and other times at their residence.

Margie Cress Fox

Margie Cress Fox of Holden Beach passed Over peacefully in her home after a prolonged illness on March 30, 2014.

Born April, 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Luther Martin Cress and the late Ida Milam Cress of Holden Beach, NC.  She was predeceased by her husband Paul W. Fox Sr., son Paul W. Fox Jr., siblings JC Cress, Junior Cress, Vera Tate and grandson Ricky Parks.

She leaves behind her daughter Betty Fox Parks of their home, Daughter-in-Law Pat Fox of Supply, NC, grandsons Paul W. Fox III of Raleigh, NC; Roddy Parks of San Marcos, CA along with his wife Manisha;  and Toni Lewis of Wilmington, NC.  Margie also leaves behind two great grandchildren Zain and Zarin Parks of San Marcos, CA.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to all of Margie’s very close friends, caregivers, neighbors, and the wonderful Sabbath Home Church community, who have been so supportive during the course of her retirement years.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Sabbath Home Baptist Church Cemetery, 990 Sabbath Home Road, Supply, NC  28462.  Following the service, lunch will be provided to all in the fellowship hall at Sabbath Home.

Reverend Dr. Charles Lawson Smith Sr., of Supply, passed away on March 29, 2014 at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center.

Rev. Smith was born October 11, 1941 in Columbus County, NC the son of the late Samuel Edward Smith and Sue Nelson Smith. He was a veteran of the US Navy and had been a Baptist Minister since 1985. Rev. Smith attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest; and received his Doctorate of Divinity from Emmanuel Baptist University in Connelly Springs, NC. He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.

Surviving is his wife Linda Sue Erwin Smith; five sons, Charles Lawson Smith Jr., and wife Tammy of Monroe, Timothy Wayne Smith and wife Joy of Wilmington, Kenneth Eugene Smith and wife Tonya of Oxford, Timothy Irvin Smith and wife Dorita of Supply, and Kenneth Jackson Smith and fiancée Leslie of Loris, SC; a brother Jerry Smith and wife Donnice of Cero Gordo; two sisters, Frances Caldwell and Judy Huffham both of Wilmington, seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at Supply Baptist Church in Supply on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Robert McClain officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.

FordMr. Robert Duane Sommersett age 41 of Shallotte died Friday March 21, 2014 at his home.

Robert was an Auto Mechanic and had a great passion for Ford Mustangs.

Robert was born in Pender County on November 13, 1972 and was the son of Glenda Lewis Sommersett of Thomasville, NC and the late Donald Ray Sommersett. He is also survived by two sons, Tristan James “TJ” and Austin Sommersett and their mother Kerri Sommersett of Shallotte; his Fiance’, Ashley Hagler of Shallotte; a step-brother, Matthew Ward of St. Pauls, NC;  two sisters, Jamie Lee and April Sommersett of Shallotte, a special Aunt, Kay Walters of Orrum, NC; special friends, Jimmy Melton, Brian Earp, Jamie New and James Lewis all of Shallotte.

Audrey Lee Gore formerly of Nakina, NC passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014 at the Beverly Park Place Health and Rehab Center in Knoxville, TN.

She was born on July 27, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Gore and son, Jimmy Gore.

Mrs. Gore was a member of   Happy Home Baptist Church in Nakina, NC.

Surviving are two children, Mark Gore and wife Regina of Shallotte, NC and Christopher Gore of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 Thursday March 20, 2014 at  Happy Home Baptist Church by Pastor Charlie Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at hour prior the service at the church.

Wilbur Leo Stephenson, 66, of Ash, North Carolina, son of James and Plassie Jones Stephenson of Willow Springs, North Carolina joined our Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 15, 2014 following a long illness.

Mr. Stephenson was a longtime employee of Lee Electrical Construction, working extensively in the Nags Head area.  He worked alongside many Hatteras EMC employees, earning the respect and love of many. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Leatha Carroll of Willow Springs, Mrs. Linda Milligan of Ash, Mrs. Barbara Langdon of Dunn, and also a brother Mr. James Stephenson, Jr. of Willow Springs.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Julia “Judy” Stephenson; son, Christopher Mark Stephenson of Raleigh; stepson, David Metty of Grasston, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Carrie King of Reading, Michigan ; two brothers, Reverend Tom Stephenson of Supply and George Stephenson of Smithfield; three sisters, Doris Griffis also of Smithfield, Lucille Bowden of Willow Springs, and Shirley Smith of Ash; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  His constant devoted companions were his beloved dogs, Chester and Lil’ Bit.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Shallotte with Reverend Tom Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Smith, Greg Smith, Ryan Smith, Randy Stephenson, Steve Milligan, and Terry Milligan.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 12-1pm at the funeral home.
