Lois G. Evans ~ Supply

Lois Gertrue Evans, 75, of Supply died Wednesday November 19, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Evans was born in Brunswick County on January 7, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Janie Hewett Evans. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Lois enjoyed painting and gardening. She always enjoyed “wheeling and dealing”.

She is survived by five children, Louie Al Lewis Jr. and wife Angie of Supply, Sonja Kay Todd and husband Lester of Supply, Tony Glen Lewis and wife Stephanie Marie of Bolivia, Tina Michelle Culbreth and husband Sheppard of Supply, Chris Allen Lewis of Supply; two brothers, Bobby Evans and wife Elizabeth and James “Pan” Evans and wife Janet all of Supply; a sister, Josie Simmons and husband Bob of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday November 22, 2014 at 10am at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Anthony Clemmons and Reverend Landis Lancaster officiating. Entombment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Phillip Locklear ,70, of Pembroke died Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton.

Mr. Locklear was born in Robeson County on March 12, 1944 and was the son of the late Dock and Alberta Deese Locklear. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Ester Rich, Samuel Locklear, James R. Locklear, Winford Locklear. He retired from Kosa Chemicals after 32 years of employment. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.

He is survived by his children, Phillip D. Locklear of Winnabow, Christi Clemmons and husband Ricky of Bolivia, Nola Rivenbark and husband Glenn of Willard; their mother, Ann Locklear of Winnabow; grandchildren, Amber Locklear, Nolan Locklear, Garrett Locklear, Melissa Sellers, Kaitlin Clemmons, Caleb Clemmons, Anna Rivenbark; great grandchildren, Landon Sligh, Cayden Sellers; siblings, Barbara Locklear, Bill Locklear, Delmus Locklear, Hannah Brooks, Peggy Oxendine, Larry Locklear.

Funeral services will be held Saturday November 15, 2014 at 11am at Town Creek Baptist Church with Reverend V.C. Potter Jr. and Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one our prior to the service.

Walter Maynard Willetts

Mr. Walter Willetts age 89 of Wilmington and formerly of Supply died Saturday November 8, 2014 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington.
Mr. Willetts was born in Brunswick County on February 1, 1925 and was the son of the late George F. and Rosa Reaves Willetts. He owned and operated Willetts Heating and Air for 55 years. He was a avid fisherman and enjoyed metal detecting.

He is survived by his wife, Kay F. Willetts; ten children, Gracie Varnum of Supply, Jamie Willetts of Wilmington, Darlene McGee of Shallotte, Jerry Willetts of Supply, Alvin Willetts of Varnamtown, Debbie Clark of Rocky Point, Lisa Ryan of Martinsburg, WV, Arthur “Buddy” Norris of Wilmington, Elizabeth Ann Howard of Wilmington, Tracy Norris of Greenville, NC; a brother, Hilton Willetts of Leland, 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 11, 2014 at 11am at Soldier Bay Baptist Church 3905 Whiteville Road NW, Ash, NC with Reverend Charlie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 at White Funeral Service, 3660 Express Dr., Shallotte and other times from the home of Gracie Varnum, 1887 Seashore Rd., Supply.

Audrey May Barres French age 88 years of Shallotte passed away on Friday October 31, 2014 at the Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center Bolivia, NC.

She was born in Smith Creek, MI on May 4, 1926 the daughter of the late, Harry Neal and Cecil Wiley Neal and was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Barres , two sisters, Ruth Laturno, Donna Barres and husband Jack; three brothers, Ross Neal, Ted Neal and Alfred  Neal

Mrs. French was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bolivia. Surviving is her husband, Virgil R. French of the home; her children, Wayne Barres and wife, Cheryl of Flint, MI, Debra Riggan and husband, Ed of Miami, FL, Gary French and wife, Kay of Lake Orion, MI, Beth Whitman and husband, Rick of Flushing , MI, Barbara Miller and husband, Larry of Rockford, MI and Andrea Burger and husband, Don of Lusby, MD; a brother, Harry Neal and wife, Susie of Arizona; two sisters, Arlene Keys and husband, Leon of Marlette, MI and Kay Barbe and husband, Joe of Port Huron, MI; a brother-in-law, Richard Barres and wife, Shirley also of Flint, MI sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Monday November 3, 2014 at White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel, 3660 Express Drive Shallotte, NC Reverend Clayton Rivenbark officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint, MI.

Roy C. Hewett

Roy C. Hewett

Roy Clyde “The Judge or Capt. Roy” Hewett, 65, of Little River, SC (formerly of Varnamtown, NC), went home to our Heavenly Father on October 26, 2014 at McLeod Seacoast, Little River, SC.

Roy was born in Brunswick County on Sept. 10, 1949 and was the son of the late R.C. Hewett and Eula Mae Robinson Hewett Koss. He was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Lee Hewett and a brother, Kenneth Wayne “Ted” Hewett.

He retired from Norfolk Dredging Company as a Master Boatman and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 25 Marine Division. He loved the water. He did not know a stranger and had many friends up and down the East Coast.

He is survived by one daughter, Renea Hewett and husband Keith of Varnamtown, NC; one son Shane Deaton of Webster, TX; one sister Marie Hewett of Shallotte, NC; 2 granddaughters Chrisma Hewett and Kina Combs of Varnamtown, NC; and a fiance Ann Way of Little River, SC; aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3 pm at Gospel Center Baptist Church, 330 Varnamtown Rd Supply, NC 28462. The Pastor Foyd Bennett and Reverend Landis Lancaster will be officiating. The family will receive family and friends at 490 Sabbath Home Rd Supply, NC 28462 all throughout the week.

Roy’s wishes was for his ashes to be put out to sea, so he could return to the water that he loved so much and worked so many years.

Mr. John Charles “Jack” Ohman, 70, of Bolivia died October 14, 2014 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Jack was born in Bridgeport, CT. on May 29, 1944 and was the son of the late David and Mary Elizabeth White Ohman.

He is survived by his faithful companion, Joan Kefalis of the home; two children, Tina Marie Small and Roy Thomas Ohman; sister, Eleanor “Ellie” Brown of Crystal River, Fl.; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A private family service will be held Saturday October 18, 2014 at 11am at the chapel of White Funeral and Cremation Service, Shallotte. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Pembroke, Mass.

Mrs. Josephine Carlyle, 73, of Ash died Thursday October 16, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Carlyle was born in Bladen County on March 21, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Watus and Artie Brisson Hickman. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Carlyle.

She is survived by her husband Johnny E. Carlyle of the home; two sons, Johnny Ray Carlyle and wife Marta and Randy Everette Carlyle and wife Betty, all of Ash; two grandchildren, Kelsey Carlyle and Johnathan Carlyle; two brothers, Watus Hickman Jr. of Wilmington, Freddie Hickman of Bladenboro; three sisters, Mary Lee Simmons of Bladenboro, Eva King of Lumberton, Carol Davis of Bladenboro.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2pm Saturday October 18, 2014 at the Carlisle Family Cemetery, Ash-Little Rd., Ash with Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday evening October 17th from 6-8 pm at White Funeral Service, Shallotte.

Barbara Burns Viviano

Barbara Burns Viviano

Barbara Burns Viviano, 68 of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, passed away on October 12, 2014 at home after a years-long battle with cancer and is in her Heavenly home.

Born in Paterson, NJ on April 17, 1946, Barbara was the daughter of the late Paul and Adele Burns. She was preceded in death by a niece,  Meghan.

Surviving her is her husband of 25 years, Eugene Viviano; two step-children, Tricia Viviano of Virginia Beach, VA and James Viviano of Warrington, PA;  a  brother, John Burns and wife, Anne of Princeton, NJ; two nieces, Emily and Sarah; two nephews, Jeffrey and Matthew.

Barbara was a special loving and enthusiastic person, a dedicated wife and homemaker with a strong zest for life and serving God. She enjoyed her pets, Sparky, Shammy, Max and Maggie, as well as world traveling, dancing, gardening, theatre and classic movies.

Early in her life she studied fashion buying and merchandizing at Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC in 1967. She then received her bachelor’s degree in education from William Paterson College, Wayne, NJ, in 1972, and spent over 20 years working in retailing at such department stores as Allied Stores, Sterns and A&S in NJ.  She learning oil painting and became a talented artist.  Her other “hobby” was stock investing which her father taught her in her young adult life as a way to become financially-independent.  Her strong Catholic faith allowed her to devote many years of service in many ministries including the lay ministry program and Cursillo as well as becoming a Columbiette.  Barbara loved the beach and the slower-paced life offered by the Brunswick Islands.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 12 noon Thursday October 16, 2014 at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Shallotte.

There will be a reception at the church  following the funeral mass.

Patricia “Pat” Loette Helms age 73 of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away on Thursday October 9, 2014 At the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick Bolivia, NC.

She was born on November 19, 1940 in Concord, NC the daughter of the late Wilmer Dan Phillips and Clara Loette McCowell Phillips.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Garry Helms. Mrs. Helms was a member of the Word of Life Christian Fellowship Church. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Carter and husband, Tim of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; a brother, Ken Phillips of Myrtle Beach, SC; one granddaughter, Ashley Carter.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday October 11, 2014 at the Word of Life Christian Fellowship Church Ocean Isle Beach, NC with Reverend Tim Carter officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior the service at the church. Interment will follow in the MIntz Cemetery.
