Sarah Elizabeth Broome Hudson was born June 16, 1929. She ascended to her heavenly mansion on Friday, December 6,2014 surrounded by her family. She was married to the love of her life, Grady and brought into this world her “girls” as she called us…..Barbara Martinez, Diane Sellers, Yvonne Norton and Joyce Hudson. She just naturally assumed her responsibility to teach her “girls” how to cook….wash clothes….iron those clothes properly…..clean the house , pick the beans from the garden and yes there was time for play when your chores were done and she signed off they were properly done but rest assure not until done as she always would say “ done right”.

She instilled in us the qualities and characteristics of the value of hard work by her own daily examples of much hard work. She worked in textiles and later she and her beloved Grady operated a small country store and fish market. She was second to none when it came to catching fish, cleaning the fish and cooking to perfection. Her grandsons, Scott Croom, Chris Sellers and Bryan Covington can attest to this and shall always cherish the fishing times at the Outer Banks. She was a brave soul to take on these three all at one time but her parenting skills commanded respect and never was there an option to that rule.

Our memories shall always cherish the times at large Christmas meals…..so, so many cakes. She would start cooking weeks before the Christmas week. Mama took a cake decorating class at what was RTI in the seventies and then went on to complete her requirements to graduate from the Wilton School of Cake Decorating. Mama as we call her….was so talented. She could crochet and made many gifts for her “girls” and would always tell us she wanted to leave us with something to remember her. Although these items are priceless, she leaves us with much more…..the qualities she instilled in us by her own “example”.

Sarah is survived by Barbara and Tony Martinez , Diane Sellers, Chris and Leticia Sellers, Scott and Melissa Croom,Bryan Covington, and Joy and Marcus Comstock. Her Great Grand kids….Hannah Sellers, Dalton Comstock and Savannah Comstock, Andrew Croom, Chris Croom and Zackary Croom. Sarah has now joined her beloved Grady, Yvonne, Joyce and her parents Clarence and Lena Broome.

Sarah is also survived by new family members that have grown to love and respect her in the last year. The team of Caring Angels, Jackie Ward and Pat Collins. To Jackie and Pat….Mama’s life was enriched with care, love and endless hours you just stayed with Diane and Sarah. Our card playing with Sherry that you so graciously included Mama is one memory that is embedded in our minds in the last chapters of life for Mama. I still think Jackie and Mama cheated. As the song so appropriately says….many days you were the wind beneath our wings. Diane, Barbara and all the grand kids must keep alive what she was about…..Family and the love for her family.

The family would like to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their excellent services to our Mother and especially to Ann Revels, Pone, Kelly, Sarah , Marion and Robin Holden. And second to none Dr. Summerlin.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be Tuesday, December 9,2014 from six to eight at White Funeral Services, Shallotte, North Carolina. Her entombment will be Wednesday, December 10,2014, 1:00 PM at East Side Cemetery in Rockingham, N.C.
